North Carolina's Cession of Its Western Territory

In 1790 North Carolina ceded its western territory to the US government, thereby paving the way for the formation of the state of Tennessee.

Of particular genealogical interest is the stipulation that land grants in the ceded territory made by North Carolina to its Revolutionary War veterans be honored.
